What is a Meritorious Promotion? The Meritorious Advancement Program, also known as the MAP Program, is a process by which an Individual that is Trooper and Up who meets and exceeds their duties and responsibilities may be recognized by their leaders and recommended for early advancement in rank. To be Selected for the MAP program 1 or more individuals qualified to provide the recommendation to submit a write-up to the Office of the Lieutenant for review.

To Be Recommend, Troopers must meet the following criteria: Must hold the rank of Trooper+ within the Indiana State Police.

• Must meet ALL prescribed duties and responsibilities within their associated rank.

• Must meet ALL prescribed promotion requirements of the next rank.

• Must excel at his/her job and show proficiency in all facets pertaining to LEO Duties.

• Must have no strikes or suspension of duty on their record for 2 months prior to consideration

• Must be active and enthusiastic towards duties within the California Highway Patrol.

Once a Trooper+ meets all the requirements in the criteria and a Supervisor+ has submitted a written recommendation to the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, The Office of the Deputy Commissioner and Office of the Commissioner can recommend that Trooper for promotion. Both offices will vote on the write-up and the vote must be Unanimous from the Department heads in The California Highway Patrol. The final review of the package will be the Commissioner.

How To Be Recommended : -Trooper-Sergeant Recommendation Can Come from Any Supervisor up to Lieutenant.

-Lieutenant Recommendation Can Come from Any Chain Of Command Member. The Individual recommending the Trooper for advanced promotion shall be responsible to type up a Draft for the Selectee being Recommended and deliver it to a Lieutenant Colonel's Office Member to View it and approve it. If approved it will be brought to heads for Vote to receive Award. Recipients of Meritorious Promotions will be announced in Department Announcements, and cooldowns for that respective rank shall be discounted. Recipients may be eligible to be promoted twice in a single promotion cycle but are still expected to meet the requirements of the next rank prior to receiving their next promotion.
