5.1 - Probationary Trooper Information

California Highway Patrol | Standard Operating Procedures

All new employees of the California Highway Patrol shall be assigned call signs.

Probationary officers can be terminated WITHOUT NOTIFICATION for ANY violation of CHP policy and procedures or if the officer demonstrates behavioural issues/ misconduct.

A Probationary Trooper must get ranked Trooper within 30 days of joining the department or else they face removal.

They may be removed by a Chain of Command member that is Lieutenant or above.

Probationary officers are not permitted to patrol alone, they must be on a ride along with a Trooper+
